When the sun comes out, the temperatures start to rise, and the trees begin to bloom, Porter County explodes with outdoor life. Summer here feels like a classic, continuous block party.
The Valparaiso Market: Running from late spring through fall under the Urschel Pavilion every Tuesday and Saturday, this isn't just a place to buy local corn and fresh flowers; It’s a social hub where you grab lunch from a food truck, listen to live acoustic music, and bump into everyone you know.
Summer Concert Series and Outdoor Movies: Throw a few lawn chairs and blankets into the back of the car. Throughout the summer (June, July, and August) Central Park Plaza hosts free weekly live concert series featuring everything from classic rock to soul, alongside massive outdoor movie nights for the kids. People of all ages come out with their picnic baskets or buy food from local restaurants and food trucks, and simply relax and enjoy life.
The Porter County Fair: Located at the fairgrounds just outside downtown Valpo, this massive 10-day July tradition brings top-tier country music acts, classic demolition derbies, carnival rides, and the best fair food in the region. It’s true Porter County.

Fall is arguably the most beautiful time of year in Northwest Indiana. As the nights get cooler, the leaves start to turn, and the apples come into season, Valpo hosts regular festivals for all ages.
The Valparaiso Popcorn Festival (September): The crown jewel of our community identity. Founded in honor of legendary resident Orville Redenbacher, this massive celebration brings over 300 craft and food vendors, the iconic Popcorn Parade (featuring floats entirely decorated in popcorn), and national music acts to the main stage. Some restaurants even bring their own musical entertainment. It’s a city-wide holiday Valpo residents look forward to all year long.
Valpo Brewfest: For parents, autumn brings premier adult-focused community events at the amphitheater, including the Brewfest where a ticket lets you sample from over 200 beers, ciders, and seltzers.
