Life in Valpo: A typical weekend on Lincolnway

Lincolnway is the historic main street and commercial heart of downtown Valparaiso, Indiana.

Running east-west straight through the city, it connects historic 19th-century brick architecture with modern dining, local shops, and community events.

Here’s a bit of Lincolnway trivia:

  • Lincolnway was originally part of the Lincoln Highway—the first dedicated coast-to-coast automobile road across the United States, established in 1913.

  • Lincolnway borders the north side of the historic Porter County Courthouse Square. This tree-lined park space acts as the anchor for the entire downtown commercial district.

  • The corridor is packed with top-rated local eateries—ranging from fine dining and Spanish tapas to craft beers and artisan desserts,

  • Just steps off Lincolnway is Central Park Plaza and the Urschel Pavilion, which host outdoor concerts, movie nights, summer farmers markets, and an ice-skating rink in the winter.
